Police said that while posted at Jammikunta, Sreekanth allegedly sexually exploited the woman, threatened her with her private photographs and harassed her through video calls.
Warangal:Sub-inspector Kadire Sreekanth was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing and extorting a woman he befriended through social media in Hanamkonda district, police said. He was produced before a local court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
According to Subedari circle inspector Ranjith Kumar, Sreekanth, a 2014-batch sub-inspector and a native of Konaraopet mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district, allegedly developed contact with the complainant through Facebook in 2025 and exploited her personal circumstances to establish a close relationship.
Police said that while posted at Jammikunta, Sreekanth allegedly sexually exploited the woman, threatened her with her private photographs and harassed her through video calls. He is also accused of extorting money from her.
A case was registered against Sreekanth based on the woman's complaint. Police said he remained absconding for some time before being traced and arrested in Nizamabad with the help of technical evidence and credible intelligence. He was brought to Hanamkonda, interrogated and produced before the III Additional Court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
Police said another case involving similar allegations by a different woman had earlier been registered against the officer.
