Shastripuram ROB Opens After 5-Year Delay

Government Chief Whip (Legislative Council) Patnam Mahender Reddy, Rajendranagar MLA T. Prakash Goud, GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan and others also participated.

Hyderabad: After a delay of over five years, the Shastripuram road over bridge (ROB) has finally been opened to vehicular traffic on Friday, giving local residents much‑needed relief from frequent accidents, long waits at the railway crossing and heavy congestion in the area. Locals who had been waiting for years for the ROB’s completion celebrated the opening, saying it brought long‑intended relief.

The flyover, built at LC No. 7 on the Secunderabad-Falaknuma-Shivarampally railway line at Shastripuram, was inaugurated by IT minister D. Sridhar Babu. The bridge will facilitate seamless traffic flow from Mailardevpally to Falaknuma via Vattepally, reducing travel time by nearly 30 minutes. It is also expected to cut fuel consumption and delays caused by railway crossings.

The works were taken up under the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode to ease traffic movement between Mailardevpally and the Falaknuma RTC bus depot. The Rs 71‑crore project has a total length of 490 metres, including a 37.28‑metre railway portion, with a flyover width of 16.60 metres.

Earlier, the road had a railway gate where people had to wait long periods for trains to pass, causing heavy traffic and making travel difficult between Mailardevpally, Shastripuram, Engine Bowli and Charminar, said Syed Muneeruddin, a resident of Mughal Colony.

Another local, Md. Khadeer said people had been waiting for the bridge for five years and were happy with its inauguration. He added that the bridge will ensure free movement of traffic, save fuel and reduce daily commuting struggles.

Residents noted that around 20 accidents had occurred earlier due to the lack of proper facilities at the railway crossing.

Md Mazar said people had to take longer routes during emergencies, which caused many problems. He added that the previous government had left the project incomplete and there was no proper fencing at the railway crossing.

Government Chief Whip (Legislative Council) Patnam Mahender Reddy, Rajendranagar MLA T. Prakash Goud, GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan and others also participated.
