Shastripuram ROB Construction in Final Phase

Officials expect the ROB to ease peak-hour queues that once stretched hundreds of metres whenever trains passed the Uddamgadda gate, improving travel times for motorists from Shastripuram, Vattepally, Kattedan and Bandlaguda.

Hyderabad: Construction of the 490-metre road overbridge (ROB) at Shastripuram is in its final phase, with 90 per cent of civil works completed, GHMC officials said.

Launched in 2022 at a sanctioned cost of Rs 71 crore, the project is designed to eliminate the traffic bottleneck caused by the level-crossing at Uddamgadda — an arterial link for commuters heading to NH-44, the PVNR Expressway and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Once the portion of railway work is complete, GHMC estimates a further six weeks to tie in approaches and carry out finishing works, targeting an August opening.

The town-planning wing has taken possession of 115 properties; another 14 are pending before the courts, officials said.

Residents welcomed the progress after three years of disruption. “When this bridge opens it will cut our detour to Charminar and Engine Bowli,” said Mohammed Khader of Shastripuram. Shaik Faheem of Mailardevpally added that current diversions add roughly six kilometres to every trip but hoped “the pain will soon pay off.”

Officials expect the ROB to ease peak-hour queues that once stretched hundreds of metres whenever trains passed the Uddamgadda gate, improving travel times for motorists from Shastripuram, Vattepally, Kattedan and Bandlaguda.

Project status

• GHMC (452 m): Ramps on both approaches, land acquisition, retaining walls completged; road joints, final surfacing, lighting and painting remain.

• Railways (37.5 m): South Central Railway is launching steel girders; railway deck to be handed over to GHMC by the end of June.
