Airline Crew Member Raped By Cab Driver On Way To RGIA

The victim lodged a complaint with the Airport Outpost Police at Shamshabad. The accused fled the scene before the police arrived.

HYDERABAD: RGIA Airport Outpost police arrested a 23‑year‑old cab driver within 12 hours of raping an airline cabin crew member after diverting the vehicle to a secluded under‑construction site near Shamshabad while ferrying her to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for duty.

The accused, Errapogu Prashanth Kumar, a resident of Siddanthi village in Shamshabad mandal and native of Wanaparthy district, was subjected to medical examination following his arrest and later remanded in judicial custody.

Police said the crew member boarded a company‑arranged cab from her residence in Shamshabad on Tuesday afternoon. Instead of taking the regular route, the driver claimed he would use a shortcut and diverted the cab towards an isolated stretch near the under‑construction school.

He stopped the vehicle on the pretext of relieving himself, then forced open the rear door and assaulted the woman inside. A construction worker nearby noticed the stationary cab and approached, prompting the accused to flee. The worker alerted a police patrol, after which the victim lodged a complaint.

Investigators traced the cab to the airport parking area and arrested the accused at Siddanthi within 12 hours. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Further investigation is underway.
