Hyderabad: Irate residents of Shamirpet on Monday staged a protest demanding the district administration to take precautionary measures to prevent road accidents at the BITS Pilani junction.
In the last one week, three road accidents took place giving jitters to the residents to travel from the junction from Keesara to Shamirpet. On Monday morning, two women – Gayatri, 21, and Bhavani, 21, suffered serious injuries after a speeding concrete ready mixer lorry hit them at Anthaipally village.
The accident occurred when they were waiting to board a bus. Shamirpet Sub-Inspector R Dasharath said the condition of both Gayatri and Bhavani was serious.
Enraged over a series of road accidents, the residents squatted on the main road and staged a protest demanding the officials concerned take corrective measures. Raising slogans against the administration, they burnt tyres to protest against the apathetic attitude of the officials to prevent accidents resulting in mild tension in the area.
They also demanded that the officials provide a speed breaker at the spot to prevent accidents. Senior officials later intervened and pacified the residents assuring that the precautionary measures would be taken on priority in the larger interest of residents and motorists.
