Hyderabad: With fourteen police teams deployed to trace 35-year-old P Raj Kumar, wanted in the sensational sextuple murders of a minor girl, her mother, grandmother and his wife and two children in Shahbabd on Friday night, ongoing investigations revealed that his wife Sarita sought divorce from him due to his addictions, alcoholism and mounting debts coupled with the POCSO case.

According to reports, the accused Rajkumar, allegedly killed his wife and two children because she asked for a divorce. It has also come to light that he had planned it earlier, as she was an obstacle to his reckless lifestyle.

According to Sarita’s family members, when Rajkumar was in intermediate, he used to go to Sarita for tuitions. At that point, he started harassing her in the name of love, and when her parents came to know, they began looking for marriage alliances for her. Rajkumar allegedly spoiled all the proposals that came, and despite Sarita being six years older than him, he married her in 2018.

Further investigation revealed that Rajkumar, who worked as a car driver, got addicted to betting and gambling and incurred debts of up to Rs 2 crore. Unable to bear the debt burden, he sought money from his parents and also threatened to commit suicide if they didn’t give him money. His parents sold some of their land to repay the loans, and it is reported that he allegedly tricked his parents and got them to sell all their land as well.

Raj Kumar, who was harassing the minor victim who was studying intermediate, was released on bail granted in connection with a POCSO case registered by the victim against him on May 15.

On the marital front, Rajkumar, who was also addicted to alcohol, would often get drunk and harass Sarita. Unable to bear his torture anymore, Sarita asked for a divorce. This angered Rajkumar, and he apparently held a grudge against her and police believe it might have led him to kill Sarita and their two children.

Unconfirmed reports have come in that the accused attempted suicide by consuming pesticide and is undergoing treatment in a hospital at an undisclosed location. Further investigation is underway.
