Sewage Pollutes Borewell Water in Hyderabad's Saket Colony
The situation has left nearly 200 families across five apartment buildings worried

Hyderabad: Drainage water from a nearby colony has been let out into empty open plots at Saket Colony in Kapra for over a year, causing the dirty water to seep into the ground and mix with the underground water.
People living in the colony are raising concerns over the issue as the sewage is polluting the groundwater, which many families depend on for their daily needs. Borewell water, which was once clean now smells bad and looks contaminated.
“Even after bringing this issue to the attention of officials, there has been no use. If we dig just 10 feet in the nearby lands the drainage water starts surfacing,” said Venkata Rama Shiva, a resident.
“Groundwater is our only source of water and even that has now become polluted now,” he added.
The situation has left nearly 200 families across five apartment buildings worried. They are concerned not just about the foul smell and inconvenience, but the risk of waterborne diseases especially with the rainy season coming.
“There are five apartment buildings here and nearly 200 families are suffering because of this,” said M. Krishna, another resident. “We have children and elderly people here and the health risks are real,” he added.
Despite repeated complaints made to the authorities, residents say the issue has not been resolved.
When contacted, Santhosh Kumar, General Manager of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), said, “We are aware of the problem. Plans have already been proposed and once the tender is sanctioned, the work will begin.”
