Hyderabad: A seven-storey under-construction building collapsed in Anjaiah Nagar under the Madhapur police station limits on Saturday afternoon. The building was reportedly constructed on just 50 yards of land and was located adjacent to a nala.

The collapsed structure fell onto Whitefield Apartment, causing partial damage to the building. A hostel located adjacent to the seven-storey building was also affected, with students panicking following the collapse.

Police and rescue personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation to determine whether anyone was trapped under the debris.

The identity of the building owner is not yet known. Locals alleged that the building was an illegal construction. They also expressed deep concern over the safety standards and claimed that the authorities should have taken action against the construction earlier. Locals urged officials to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action against those involved.

DRF personnel are retrieving a body trapped under the debris. Police suspect that three workers may be trapped beneath the rubble. A worker who was present on the third floor of the building was rescued by locals and shifted to CARE Hospital for treatment.

Further details are awaited.
