Senior citizen among 2 held in ganja case at Secunderabad railway station

Hyderabad: Secunderabad Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) organized surprise checking against drug peddlers on platforms and trains at Secunderabad Railway Station, and apprehended two persons including a senior citizen for transporting ganja from Visakhapatnam to Surat via Secunderabad.

The arrested have been identified as Mithun Sethi, 33, a labourer in a cloth manufacturing company at Surat and Pandav Naik, 60, a labourer. Both were natives of Odisha. Rabindra Dakua of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh was absconding, according to police.

While Mithun returned to his native village for his wife’s delivery, Naik was unable to speak properly as he was mentally disturbed by family issues, as none of his sons take care of him. As he came to know about the problems of Mithun and Nail, Rabindra lured them saying that he had eight kg ganja in three packets and assured them he would pay Rs.5,000 each, if they transported it to Surat, where persons known to him would collect it.

On the same day, Mithun and Naik collected packets from Rabindra and went to Berhampur where they purchased general tickets and boarded a general coach of Konark Express to reach Dadar. They planned to continue their journey to Surat by another train. They concealed the ganja bags under their seats and continued their journey.

When the train reached Secunderabad railway station, the police apprehended them while moving under suspicious manner and seized 8.595 kg of dry ganja worth Rs.2.14 lakh and a mobile phone and two journey tickets from the possession of arrested persons.
