WARANGAL: Marking a significant evolution in the pilgrimage experience, panchayat raj minister Seethakka inaugurated the helicopter service for the Medaram Maha Jatara at Arts and Science College grounds here on Thursday.
Launched under the aegis of the Telangana tourism department in collaboration with Thumby Aviation, these services would bolster the unique aerial perspective of Asia’s largest tribal congregation.
Seethakka highlighted how the devotees’ journey to the seats of Goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma has transformed over generations, moving from footpaths to bullock carts and cars and now to helicopters.
The state tourism department initiated these aerial services to save time for devotees and provide them a unique darshan experience.
The service, operated by Thumby Aviation private limited that has a decade of experience in this sector, would run daily until January 31.
The minister contrasted the alliance government’s efforts with the previous administration. “While funding was nominal in the past, our government has sanctioned `251 crore for the Maha Jatara. This budget is being utilized for the reconstruction and restoration of the sacred altars and extensive development of permanent infrastructure to accommodate the millions of visiting devotees.”
The minister detailed the fare structure to ensure transparency for pilgrims. The shuttle service from Hanamkonda to Medaram and back is priced at `35,000 per person. For those already at the shrine, ‘Joy Rides’ providing an aerial view of the forest festivities are available for `4,800.
The helipad at Padigapur serves as the base for these local aerial tours. Devotees can book their slots through the official website (www.helitaxij.com) or via the designated helplines.
