Seethakka Appears Before Court In 2021 Case Booked For Staging Protest During Covid

The court adjourned the next hearing to August 13 after hearing the arguments

Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka on Thursday appeared before the court at Nampally in connection with a case registered against her along with the MLC Balmoor Venkat, NSUI city president Abhijit and others for staging a protest at Indira Park in April 2021 demanding the BRS government include Covid in Rajiv Arogyasri scheme and help poor people in getting treatment during pandemic.

Speaking to media persons after appearing before Manoranjan court in Nampally, she said that she along with Venkat, Abhijit and other NSUI activists staged demonstration to help poor people during pandemic demanding that the BRS government include Covid in Arogyasri scheme as several families sold their properties for treatment expenses of those affected with Covid.

“We started the protest as we were unable to see the difficulties of several families in meeting the medical expenses. Many people lost their lives due to Covid as they could not spend lakhs of rupees for treatment in private hospitals and that is why we wanted to include Covid in Arogyasri and save precious lives,” the Minister said.

“In order to bring it to the notice of the then State government about the problems faced by the people, we staged the protest at Indira Park. But, the BRS government booked cases against us unnecessarily alleging that we are spreading Covid,” Seethakka said.

She said the previous government registered illegal cases against her and other Congress leaders forcing them to move around the court. “Yet, we have full faith in the court. We have done nothing wrong, so we will prove ourselves innocent,” she added. After hearing the arguments, the court adjourned the next hearing to August 13.
