HYDERABAD: The Secunderabad railway station, being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, has reached 65 per cent completion and is expected to be inaugurated in April next year.
Visitors, however, complained of inconvenience as pedestrians are forced to use the same ramp meant for vehicles after parking. “For the elderly it is difficult. Railways should arrange an alternative,” said one commuter.
Parking contractor Shant Kumar said ushers were guiding visitors to move from the side of the ramp, with caution posters displayed along the way.
Railway authorities explained that vertical mobility at the station would include 26 lifts, 32 escalators and two travelators. “Since the station is under construction, inconvenience is unavoidable. Advisories are being issued from time to time,” officials said.
They added that a multi‑level parking complex on the north side and streamlined pick‑up and drop zones are planned.
The historic station is being transformed into an airport‑style transit terminal with separate arrival and departure blocks, a two‑level air concourse, skywalks linking to metro stations, dedicated zones for passengers, and green energy facilities including solar power, EV charging, sewage treatment and rainwater harvesting.
