Secunderabad Cantonment Board Wins Raksha Mantri’s Award for Cleanliness

Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has been awarded the Raksha Mantri’s Award for Excellence in the ‘Swachha Chhawani, Swastha Chhawani’ category, recognising its efforts in waste management and environmental sustainability among 61 cantonments nationwide.
Spanning 41 square kilometres across eight wards, the SCB has implemented a waste management system with 95 door-to-door garbage collection vehicles. A key milestone has been the restoration of the historic Ramanankunta lake, which had long suffered from neglect and for preserving local heritage while addressing environmental challenges.
In addition to its sanitation efforts, the SCB has actively engaged residents with over 80 awareness rallies, 125 plogging drives, and various school campaigns to encourage a culture of cleanliness. Its green initiatives include the planting of more than 15,000 trees as part of its environmental conservation agenda, the board said in a press note.
