Godavari at 48 ft in Bhadrachalam; Second Flood Warning in Force

Bhadrachalam: The Godavari river level has reached 48.00 feet at Bhadrachalam as of 3:48 PM on July 31, triggering the second flood warning in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
Officials said the discharge has risen to 11,44,645 cusecs, indicating a steady inflow into the river. The first warning level is set at 43 feet (9,32,288 cusecs), while the second warning level is 48 feet (11,44,645 cusecs). The third warning level stands at 53 feet, with a projected discharge of 14,26,684 cusecs.
Authorities have alerted all flood duty officers to remain on high alert and act as per the Godavari Flood Manual, as forecasts indicate a further rise in water levels.
Historical data shows that the highest flood recorded at Bhadrachalam was in 1986, when the river reached 75.60 feet with a discharge of 27.02 lakh cusecs. More recently, in 2022, the river level peaked at 71.30 feet with a discharge of 24.43 lakh cusecs.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious.
