Search Fails to Trace 70-Year-Old Swept Away in Miyapur Drain

Search teams continued operations for a fourth day but failed to locate a 70-year-old man who was washed away in an open drain near Miyapur.

Officials of multiple line departments have failed to trace 70‑year‑old Balakrishnayya, who fell into an open drain and was washed away on Tuesday night at Miyapur’s Vaishali Nagar Road Under Bridge (RUB).

Teams from Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) carried out search operations. On Friday, officials used equipment fitted with HD cameras to scan the Nakka Vagu stream in Patancheru and the Chinna Vagu in Bhavanipuram.

Balakrishnayya, a rag picker, was walking near the underpass to collect trash when he fell into the open drain. Manholes, drains and other channels in and around the accident site were checked earlier but without success. At Nakka Vagu and Chinna Vagu, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) joined CMC and HYDRAA in the search operations.
