SC/ST Funds Must Not Be Misused, Warns Commission Chairman

NIZAMABAD: SC/ST commission chairman Bakki Venkataiah has warned that strict action will be taken if SC/ST sub-plan funds are diverted or misappropriated. He stressed that allocations must be spent on a population basis and that all pending land-related cases should be resolved promptly.
Venkataiah reviewed the welfare and development programmes for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at the District Offices Integrated Complex on Saturday. District collector T. Vinay Krishna Reddy, Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya and other officials attended the meeting.
The chairman directed officials to expedite the resolution of atrocity cases and announced that Citizen Rights Day reviews must be held on the fourth Saturday of every month, while district-level meetings on SC/ST issues should take place quarterly. He cautioned that the commission will act firmly against anyone who attacks members of SC or ST communities.
Commission members Neela Devi and Jilla Shankar, additional collectors Ankit and S. Kiran Kumar, Bodhan sub-collector Vikas Mahatho, trainee collector Corolin Chingthiyan Mavi, district welfare officer Rajitha and other officials were present. Leaders of SC/ST associations submitted memoranda to the chairman during the meeting.
