Scientists Sensitise Farmers on Monsoon Preparedness
These are expected to help in pest control and improve resistance against soil-borne diseases

WARANGAL: Creating awareness among farmers on monsoon cultivation preparedness, a team of agricultural scientists from the Telangana Rythu Vigyan Kendra (TRVK) and the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) conducted a programme at Choullapalli village in Atmakur mandal of Hanamkonda district on Sunday.
The awareness programme is part of a three-year ‘adopted village’ initiative aimed at providing farmers with continuous technical guidance, field demonstrations and advanced pest management practices.
Addressing the farmers, TRVK coordinator and principal scientist Dr A. Vijaya Bhaskar stressed the importance of green manure for improving soil fertility. He advised farmers to sow sun-hemp, dhaincha and green gram with the onset of monsoon rains and plough them back into the soil during the flowering stage. He also underlined the need for proper seed treatment to prevent pest attacks during the initial stages of crop growth.
He also explained them various key topics such as crop variety selection, crop rotation methods and soil health management. Scientists gave a live demonstration on scientific soil sample collection for fertility testing and urged farmers to apply fertilizers based on test results.
Senior scientist Dr B. Venkata Raj Kumar explained nutrient management practices for major crops grown in the region, including cotton, maize and vegetables.
As part of the village adoption programme, the scientists distributed eco-friendly agricultural inputs such as neem oil, Trichoderma viride and Pseudomonas to farmers. These are expected to help in pest control and improve resistance against soil-borne diseases.
