WARANGAL: The Government Degree College (GDC), Wardhannapet, in Warangal district successfully hosted an international online conference on “Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) – A Nobel Prize-Winning Discovery” on Saturday night.
Announcing the event, college principal Prof. G. Poshaiah said the conference brought together leading scientists and researchers from across the world to deliberate on major breakthroughs in 21st-century materials science.
The conference focused on the transformative potential of Metal-Organic Frameworks, highly porous crystalline materials often described as high-tech sponges. Owing to their tunable structure, MOFs are increasingly being used to address global challenges. Key discussions highlighted their applications in hydrogen storage, carbon dioxide capture to combat climate change, water purification, and advanced drug delivery systems.
Organising secretary Dr Nerella Srinivas said the primary objective of the conference was to translate laboratory research into practical solutions that benefit society. He noted that the event featured internationally renowned experts from France, including Prof. Christian Serre of the Paris Institute of Porous Materials and Prof. Guillaume Maurin of the University of Montpellier, who shared insights on the design, functionality, and future scope of MOFs.
National-level experts from premier Indian institutions such as IIT (BHU), Vignan University, and MIT Manipal also presented their latest research on synthesising MOFs and their applications in clean energy and chemical sensing, he added.
The conference served as a major academic exchange platform, with two keynote addresses, three invited talks, and nearly 100 research paper presentations. Scholars from various IITs, central research laboratories, and state universities participated in the event.
The conference concluded with a call to young researchers to pursue scientific innovation aimed at building a sustainable and technologically advanced future.
