Schools Reopen with Breakfast Scheme
Hyderabad district will begin the first phase of the government’s breakfast programme in 45 schools. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar will launch the programme at Raj Bhavan Government School.
Hyderabad: Schools across Telangana will reopen on Monday, after a 52-day summer break, as the state begins the 2026-27 academic year with breakfast for 12,437 children in 45 Hyderabad government schools, distribution of textbooks and notebooks, new uniforms and student kits, and additional TGSRTC services on school routes.
The reopening follows the date being moved from June 12 by the government. All schools, government and private, will resume classes on Monday, while July 11, a second Saturday, will be treated as a working day to make up for the change.
Hyderabad district will begin the first phase of the government’s breakfast programme in 45 schools. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar will launch the programme at Raj Bhavan Government School. “The breakfast scheme will be introduced in 45 government schools in the district in the first phase,” district education officer Yadaiah said.
Manna Trust will run the programme. Students will receive breakfast before the school day begins, with millet idli and sambar, puri with mixed vegetable kurma, bonda with chutney, upma with chutney and dosa included in the menu. The government has linked the morning meal programme to its effort to reduce dropouts.
Textbooks and notebooks will be distributed to students in 672 government schools across Hyderabad on reopening day.
Officials said that TGSRTC will restore previously operated school routes and align morning and evening services with school timings. The RTC managing director Y. Nagi Reddy directed officials to run an “adequate number of buses” and add trips wherever students, particularly those from rural areas, face longer waits.
