School Staff Trained in Clean Cooking

Hyderabad collector Harichandana Dasari said the primary objective is to ensure that every child receives safe and hygienic food in school.

Hyderabad: Officials from the Hyderabad collectorate, in collaboration with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), have launched a training programme for cooks and food handlers working in government residential schools to improve hygiene standards and food safety practices.

Hyderabad collector Harichandana Dasari said the primary objective is to ensure that every child receives safe and hygienic food in school. The initiative covers around 80 residential schools across Hyderabad district.

Food handlers are being trained in safe food handling, including proper storage of raw materials when necessary, hand hygiene and cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas. A staff member from a government school said the sessions highlighted preventive measures to avoid food-borne illnesses. “We were also briefed about common mistakes that can lead to food poisoning,” said a food handler who attended the training.

CLAT ’26 to be held on Dec. 7

Hyderabad: The Consortium of National Law Universities has announced that the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 will be conducted on December 7, between 2 pm and 4 pm. The decision was made during a meeting of the consortium's executive committee and governing body, according to an official release. Online applications will open on August 1 and close on October 31. The consortium said that details about the syllabus, application procedure and counselling process will be released soon.

Intermediate Pass-Out Caught Running Clinic in Hayathnagar

Hyderabad: An Intermediate pass-out was caught providing treatment and medicines to people in Hayathnagar on Monday. Vinod, running a clinic named 'Hanuman First Aid Centre' was caught in an inspection conducted by the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC).Four other individuals who were practising allopathic medicine without proper qualifications were also caught.

Inspections were conducted at Sunrays Hospital and Diagnostic Centre where Dr Umakant (BAMS) was found practicing modern medicine. At Sri Vijaya Brahmendra First Aid Centre, Brahmendra was found offering allopathic treatment in violation of medical norms. At Sri Sai Poly Clinic, Dr K.S. Prasad (BHMS) was falsely claiming to be an MBBS doctor and practicing modern medicine. Rambabu was found providing unauthorised medical services at Balaji First Aid Centre.

The officials present during the inspections said these inspections were made in TGMC's attempt to curb quackery and ensure public safety. "Cases will be filed against these fake doctors at the concerned police stations under NMC Sections 34, 54, TS MPR Act 22, and BNS Sections 318 and 319," said Dr G Srinivas, Vice Chairman, TGMC.

The council has stated that further legal action will be taken against centres violating medical regulations. Dr Srinivas urged the public to report information about fake doctors to antiquackerytsmc@onlinetsmc.in.

TGTET results out today

Hyderabad: The results of the Telangana Teacher Eligibility Test (TGTET), conducted in June, will be announced on Tuesday at 11 am. Dr Yogita Rana, secretary of the education department, will officially release the results. TET Paper-I is for candidates aspiring to teach Classes 1 to 5, while Paper-II is for those intending to teach Classes 6 to 8.

ABVP burns effigy at OU

Hyderabad: Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at Osmania University Arts College on Monday, condemning the alleged involvement of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) leaders in a series of rape cases reported in Odisha.

Protesters set fire to an effigy of the NSUI, expressing outrage over the repeated incidents and alleged silence of the Congress leadership. ABVP members said student politics must not shield those involved in serious crimes. They extended solidarity with the victims and reaffirmed their commitment to a student movement rooted in justice, safety and accountability.

Baby crocodile rescued from canal

Hyderabad: A baby crocodile was spotted near the Kothwalguda–Himayat Sagar water channel on Saturday and has since been relocated to Nehru Zoological Park. The crocodile, around 2.5 feet long, is currently under quarantine.

After spotting the crocodile, locals alerted the police and Telangana forest department, who shifted the reptile to the zoo. “The crocodile is now under observation. After 10 to 15 days, we will move it to the main enclosure if found healthy,” said a zoo official.

Zoo authorities believe the crocodile may have entered Himayat Sagar from a nearby water body. Similar sightings were reported in October 2024 near the Salar Jung Museum and in September 2023 at Chintal Basti, Khairatabad.

CZA official reviews Nehru Zoo

Hyderabad: Dr V. Clement Ben, member secretary of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), government of India, visited Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) on Monday. Accompanied by senior forest and zoo officials, Dr Ben toured both public animal exhibits and off-display night enclosures. The director and curator of NZP briefed him on vaccination drives, breeding and exchange programmes, adoption schemes, enclosure enrichment, health monitoring and behavioural research.

He also visited the Mouse Deer Breeding Centre, one of the country’s most successful conservation initiatives. Launched in 2010 with six animals, the project has grown to over 300 by 2017 and supported reintroductions into Telangana’s forests. The species has become highly sought after in national animal exchange programmes.

As part of Van Mahotsav and the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, Dr Ben and other senior officials planted saplings, including Cassia Fistula (Golden Shower tree) and other fruit-bearing species, on zoo premises. Later, the director presented an overview of zoo activities across Telangana. Dr Ben praised the zoo for its well-maintained enclosures and scientifically planned conservation work. “The planning and implementation of breeding, vaccination, animal exchange and educational programmes are excellently aligned for successful outcomes,” he said.
