HYDERABAD: The school education department has set September 30 as the deadline for students with pending Aadhaar biometrics to complete their mandatory biometric update (MBU). It has warned schools and junior colleges of departmental action if they refuse to allow Aadhaar operators to conduct camps on their premises.
Aadhaar enrolment and update camps are being conducted through operators deputed by the department. Students whose biometrics are due for revision at prescribed age milestones must update their fingerprints, iris scan and photograph.
Headmasters, principals and managements have been asked to check the UDISE+ portal for details of students whose MBU is pending and complete the process within the deadline. The department said updated biometrics could be required during Aadhaar-based authentication for educational services and competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET. Students who delay the process could face difficulties when such authentication is required, it said.
District educational officers and district intermediate education officers have been asked to issue instructions to institutions and monitor completion of the exercise. The department said some private schools and colleges were not permitting its Aadhaar operators to conduct camps despite earlier instructions. Such non-compliance would be “viewed seriously”, it said, adding that “appropriate departmental action may be initiated against the concerned institutions” under applicable rules.
