SC Verdict on Danam Nagender a “Slap” on Defection Politics, Says Kishan Reddy
Kishan Reddy said the apex court’s dismissal of Nagender’s petition and direction to implement the High Court order was a lesson for both parties that had been indulging in unconstitutional hopping of MLAs.
Hyderabad: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court’s order upholding the Telangana High Court’s decision disqualifying Danam Nagender as the Khairatabad legislator, calling it a “slap” on the defection politics of the Congress and the BRS.
In a statement, Kishan Reddy said the apex court’s dismissal of Nagender’s petition and direction to implement the High Court order was a lesson for both parties that had been indulging in unconstitutional hopping of MLAs.
“When in power, these parties have made it a culture to induct opposition MLAs and even make them ministers.
When in Opposition, they criticise defections but promote the same once they come to power,” he said.
“This is not just about the Congress. Both Congress and BRS have been trampling people’s verdict by encouraging defections for their political gains,” he said.
He added that the Khairatabad bypoll would give voters a chance to reject “selfish, opportunistic defection politics” and ensure a BJP victory. “Truth alone triumphs,” Kishan Reddy said.
