SC to Hear Kancha Gachibowli Land Case Today

The case was taken up suo motu by the Supreme Court following widespread news reports about trees being felled in the land

HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court is slated on hear on Thursday, the Kancha Gachibowli land case involving 400 acres of land abutting the University of Hyderabad. On April 16, the court had set May 15 for the next hearing, and ordered that no work of any kind must be taken up in the land until it takes a decision.

The case was taken up suo motu by the Supreme Court following widespread news reports about trees being felled in the land and wildlife affected on account of the land clearing operations. The government had informed the court that the 400 acres was not forest land and that it was being developed by the TGIIC for setting up employment generating companies and associated facilities.

The court on April 16, had ordered the state government to restore the 100 acres of land where trees were clear felled and that the wildlife department immediately take steps to protect wildlife of the area.
