Ex-DRDO chief to boost R&D and industry collaboration

Hyderabad: Former Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chairman G. Satheesh Reddy has been appointed honorary adviser (R&D) at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. The institute said the appointment is aimed at strengthening research programmes, industry collaboration and translating work from the laboratory to real‑world use.

Dr Reddy has earlier served as secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development, scientific adviser to the defence minister and as a member of the National Security Advisory Board. He is currently associated with aerospace and defence manufacturing initiatives as well as academic roles.

At IIT Hyderabad, he will guide multi‑institutional research programmes and support work in defence, aerospace and deep‑tech. His role will include mentoring faculty and students and aligning research with national priorities.

“Happy to take up this role and be part of the research ecosystem at IIT Hyderabad. We will work towards advancing R&D in areas that are important for the country,” Dr Reddy said.

IIT-H director Prof. B.S. Murty noted that his experience in defence and aerospace would strengthen ongoing research and collaboration efforts. “His guidance will help build partnerships with industry and national institutions,” he said. The institute added that the move is expected to bolster its focus on applied research and innovation.
