Nizamabad: A sarpanch aspirant died before he filed his nominations for the gram panchayat elections. All his prospective rivals then withdrew from the contest and ensured that his mother Yendala Laxmi was elected sarpanch unopposed in Nadapur of Navipet mandal.
Yendala Naveen Rao, 46, was all set to file nomination papers when he suffered severe health problems on November 27. He was shifted to a private hospital in Nizamabad and later to another one in Hyderabad.
While undergoing treatment, Naveen Rao succumbed on Monday in the hospital. Other candidates who filed nominations for sarpanch posts also withdrew from the contest.
Naveen Rao was earlier the director of Binola Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society.
