Saroornagar’s Bapunagar Residents Complain of Contaminated Drinking Water Supply

It is only when the highlighted their concerns on social media that the water board officials took note.

Hyderabad:Residents of Saroornagar’s Bapunagar, Roads No. 2, 3 and 4, said they had been receiving contaminated drinking water supply over the past week, with foul smell emanating from the taps. The tragedy at Indore, where over 15 people lost their lives due to contaminated water, loomed large over the concerns expressed by the residents.

It is only when the highlighted their concerns on social media that the water board officials took note.

Locals alleged that when they approached officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), they were advised to either let the water flow for 20 minutes or boil the water before consuming it. “Such responses are irresponsible and fail to address the core issue,” said Rajyalakshmi, resident of the area.

When their complaints failed, they highlighted the issue on social media. “I recorded the videos of water and asked our residents to post them on X. Then the water board responded,” she added.

Despite repeated complaints, officials have not given any clear or satisfactory explanation, residents said. “Will the authorities respond only after people fall seriously ill or die due to consuming contaminated water,” they asked on X.

A HMWS&SB officer explained that they visited the site on Monday, they found that a pipeline was damaged which was leading to the contamination of water. "We will repair the pipeline and resume supply after we certify that the water is safe,” an official said.
