Sankranti Travel Soars in Telugu States

Hyderabad: Compared to last year, Sankranti travel has significantly increased in the Telugu states this year. In the past ten days, double the number of vehicles have traveled on national highways than usual.

However, traffic problems have been minimized due to the proactive measures taken. Notably, on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway, traffic congestion was seen at Pantangi in Choutuppal Mandal, Korlapahad in Kethepalli Mandal, and Guduru in Bibinagar Mandal on the Hyderabad-Warangal National Highway.

Although these toll plazas saw heavy traffic, motorists reported that thanks to the swift scanning of FASTags in just two to three seconds and the proactive actions taken by the Rachakonda Police, traffic issues were significantly reduced compared to the past.

Travel increased notably from the 10th of this month for the Sankranti festival, with traffic congestion observed on the Vijayawada and Warangal routes from the 10th to the 14th, and on the Hyderabad route from the 15th to the 19th. Traffic has increased by 10% compared to last year. Normally, fewer than 35,000 vehicles pass through the Pantangi toll plaza daily. However, during Sankranti, more than 77,000 vehicles traveled through it on the day before Bhogi last year, while this year, the number rose to 84,262 vehicles.
Similarly, Korlapahad toll plaza typically sees fewer than 27,000 vehicles daily. However, during Sankranti, the daily number reached 50,000 to 60,000 vehicles. At Guduru toll plaza, which usually records 22,000 vehicles a day, the average during Sankranti was 40,000 to 50,000 vehicles.
