Sajjanar Offers ‘Dhatti’ On The Occasion Of Muharram At ‘Bibi Ka Alawa’

2000 police personnel to be deployed for the procession

HYDERABAD: City police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar visited the historic Bibi Ka Alawa at Dabeerpura and offered the traditional ‘dhatti’ and performed special prayers on Saturday. The 10th Muharram will be observed on June 26. Along with MLC Mirza Riyaz-ul-Hassan Effendi, Sajjanar inaugurated the trial walk of the elephant ‘Sridevi’, which will carry the alam on 10th Muharram.

Sajjanar also inspected security arrangements in coordination with senior officials and interacted with the organisers of the procession and requested their cooperation with the police. Senior officials Tafseer Iqbal, Khare Kiran, Vaibhav Raghunath Gaikwad and B.K. Rahul Hegde participated in the programme.

Speaking to the media, Sajjanar said the police had taken stringent precautionary measures to maintain law and order. He said 2,000 police personnel were being deployed for the ‘Bibi Ka Alam’ procession, and traffic restrictions would be in effect along the procession route.

Sajjanar said the primary objective of Saturday’s ‘trial run’ was to conduct a ground-level assessment of the elephant's behaviour amidst crowds, to review the condition of the procession route and to evaluate the need for any additional security arrangements. He expressed the optimism that procession would be completed peacefully, thereby reflecting the city's unique cultural ethos of ‘Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb.’
