Rythu Discom To Hold 42% of Businesses in State
The Rythu Discom is being carved out to provide reliable electricity to farmers, irrigation, and key sectors, with all approvals secured for full operations by June 2.

Hyderabad: The newly-formed Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company (Rythu Discom) is likely to hold 42 per cent of business connections, followed by the remaining 44 per cent held by southern discom (TGSPDCL) and another 14 per cent by northern discom (TGNPDCL). Rythu Discom will start functioning from June 2.
Rythu Discom chairman and managing director Musharraf Faruqui convened a meeting with electricity employees' unions and leaders on Friday to dispel apprehensions about career growth in the new entity.
Many staff feared limited advancement due to the discom's heavy liabilities from farmers' power bills and lift irrigation dues outweighing assets and revenue. Faruqui assured that no issues would arise for employees, with salaries, rules, and regulations matching those in existing discoms.
The Rythu Discom is being carved out to provide reliable electricity to farmers, irrigation, and key sectors, with all approvals secured for full operations by June 2.
It will initially operate with around 2,000 employees deputed from southern and northern discoms, with potential expansion and future recruitment from Transco and GenCo. In this context, the government is focusing on ensuring that the structure of the Rythu Discom is comprehensive and efficient.
The meeting convened with detailed discussions that covered staff allocations, duties, and transparent processes to prevent confusion. The meeting, attended by about 65 union leaders and officials, emphasised protecting consumer rights alongside employee welfare as government priorities.
