RWAs Seek More Time For GHMC Delimitation

They were discussing the issue at an online meeting organised by United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (U-FERWAS) to discuss the GHMC’s proposed ward delimitation notification: Reports

HYDERABAD: Representatives of residents welfare associations (RWAS) expressed their dissatisfaction over the GHMC not giving adequate time or the maps related to the new delimitation, for them to discuss the shape of the 300 divisions which the corporation will now have.

They were discussing the issue at an online meeting organised by United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (U-FERWAS) to discuss the GHMC’s proposed ward delimitation notification.

B.T. Srinivasan, federation general secretary, and Major Shiva Kiran (retd), vice-president, briefed the meeting on the changing shape of the GHMC with the inclusion of 27 peripheral urban local bodies (ULBs).

Several participants voiced their angst about GHMC not releasing maps for the new delimitation, and citizens having only seven days of time to submit their objections regarding the delimitations.

Syed Khalid, a resident of Tarnaka, said that a new ward in the area was being split under three different police stations, and spoke about how some areas were added and some areas were removed from the existing ward.

Vinayaknagar corporator Cyanam Rajyalakshmi (BJP) spoke about the confusion with the new delimitation, and said that slums which were earlier a part of Vinayaknagar, have been added to Safilguda ward, which is nowhere close to the existing area.

Maj. Kiran (retd) explained how wards traditionally only had its ward numbers, so as to delink from names to facilitate sub-division whenever population increased in the area, but also spoke about the importance of having both names and numbers to wards.

Srinivasan assured that they will consolidate all views, will meet the GHMC commissioner and municipal administration and urban development officials and will request them to extend the time to submit objections and suggestions for the delimitation.

He said they will also ask GHMC to provide maps on GHMC portal for better understanding of the delimitation, suggest an easier method of searching for house number or colonies and propose having interactions with RWAs and public representatives before finalising the new ward limits.
