Rural Telangana Rejected Revanth, Cong: Harish
BRS leader claims verdict reflects Congress decline and rising rural support

Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Thursday said the results in the gram panchayat elections have shown that rural Telangana “has firmly rejected the misrule of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy” and the elections indicated “Revanth Reddy’s declining popularity and a rural uprising against his administration.”
Speaking at a felicitation ceremony for BRS-backed sarpanches in Medak constituency, Harish Rao said their victory was achieved despite the ruling party’s alleged misuse of power.
“Historically, the ruling party in any state secures 80 to 90 percent of sarpanch posts. However, despite the Chief Minister personally campaigning and allegedly violating the election code, the Congress was restricted to less than 50 per cent, while BRS-backed candidates secured over 40 percent of the seats. It is a sign that the people of Telangana have battered the Congress with their verdict,” Harish Rao said.
He also said these results have sowed a fear of BRS in the Chief Minister, and it is likely that he will put off elections to ZPTC and MPTC posts.
Congratulating the winners, Harish Rao assured them that they will have the full support of K. Chandrashekar Rao and the party. Since 80 per cent of Finance Commission funds go directly to panchayats, the state government will have limited power to stall their work,” he said.
