Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday said that strengthening the agriculture sector in the State is the primary objective of the Congress People's government.
After inspecting the arrangements for the "Rythu Ashirvada Sabha" to be held at Jagannadhapuram–Mathkepalli crossroad in Chinthakani Mandal, he addressed a media conference at the Lachagudem Rythu Vedika.
He said that the government's objective is to make agriculture a festival by extending investment support to the farming community, which serves as the backbone of the State's economy.
He said that the "Rythu Ashirvada Sabha" to be held tomorrow at Jagannadhapuram in Chinthakani Mandal of Khammam district would bring a festive atmosphere to the farming community of the State. He announced that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, along with Cabinet colleagues, would participate in the programme and release the final instalment of Rs.1,009 crore under the Rythu Bharosa Scheme directly into the bank accounts of farmers.
He said that since assuming office, the Congress Government has been giving the highest priority to agriculture and allied sectors, adding that farmers' welfare and agricultural development are the government's foremost goals.
Criticising the previous rulers, Bhatti Vikramarka presented key statistics. Speaking about the Rythu Bharosa Scheme, he said that while the previous BRS government spent Rs.72,000 crore over ten years, the Congress Government has released Rs.35,839 crore under Rythu Bharosa in just two-and-a-half years.
He further explained that during the same period, the government has spent a total of Rs.1,67,877 crore for farmers through Rythu Bharosa, farm loan waiver, crop bonus, crop insurance, crop loss compensation, agricultural power subsidy, farm mechanisation, Atmiya Bharosa, Indiramma schemes, irrigation projects and various other welfare programmes.
Bhatti Vikramarka said that under the Rythu Bharosa Scheme, a record Rs.8,759 crore has been released to farmers in just nine days.
"Tomorrow (July 10), during the 'Rythu Ashirvada Sabha', in the presence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Cabinet colleagues, another Rs.1,009 crore will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of farmers. With this, a total of Rs.9,000 crore will have been released completely for this season within just nine days," he clarified.
He said that Khammam district stands as the hub of agriculture. Agriculture is the primary livelihood of the people in the region, supported by the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal and several irrigation projects. The government is working with the clear understanding that strengthening the agriculture sector is essential for strengthening farming families.
Bhatti Vikramarka said that the programme was named "Rythu Ashirvada Sabha" at the request of farmers themselves. He appealed to farmers across the State to extend their support to the People's government, which is committed to farmers' welfare, and participate in large numbers to make the meeting a grand success. He also requested media representatives to take the programme extensively among the people.
He further said that Khammam district itself is synonymous with agriculture and that farming is the principal livelihood of the people here, supported by the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal and several irrigation projects. He revealed that, as per the wish of the farmers, the programme was named "Rythu Ashirvada Sabha" by the farmers themselves rather than by officials.
He appealed to farmers from the district as well as across the State to participate in large numbers and make the event a success. He added that the very foundation of society is linked to agriculture and requested media friends to play their part in taking this farmers' festival to the people.
