Rs.447.64 Cr allocated for 794 schools in Telangana PM SHRI scheme
PM SHRI school selection process for Telangana was conducted in two phases: Ministry of Education

Hyderabad: The Ministry of Education has informed that a total of Rs.447.64 crore including the Central share of Rs.268.58 crore and State share of Rs.179.06 crore has been allocated for 794 schools selected in the first and second phases from Telangana in financial year (FY) 2024-25 under PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme in Telangana.
Out of which 123.31 crore (Rs.73.99 crore central share plus Rs.49.32 crore State share) has been utilized. According to the Ministry, the selection of PM SHRI schools is done through the transparent challenge method, wherein schools self-apply on the online challenge portal, and the State recommends schools after district verification.
After detailed deliberation, the expert committee selects from the State recommended schools. The PM SHRI school selection process for Telangana has been conducted in two phases. The first phase of PM SHRI school selection was completed in 2023.
The second phase of selection was conducted in 2024. A total of 41 PM SHRI schools have been selected in the Ranga Reddy district and 30 PM SHRI schools have been selected in the Vikarabad district.
After the selection of the schools, the States, Union Territories, Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) submit proposals, which are appraised and sanctioned by the Project Approval Board (PAB) according to financial and programmatic norms under the scheme, focusing on the saturation of all components of the National Education Policy 2020 in PM SHRI schools.
The PAB approvals for FY 2023-24 and FY 2024-25 have been completed for all PM SHRI schools of Telangana. Funds are being released as per the financial norms for schools under the PM SHRI scheme.
As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Finance, the State government must transfer the Central share as well as the commensurate State share to the SNA account within 30 days of receipt of Central share. However, there was a delay in the transfer of funds released in the first installment to Telangana in FY 2024-25 from the State treasury to the SNA account of the PM SHRI Scheme.
This delay by the State government has affected the implementation of the PM SHRI scheme considerably. Further, the State Government was required to utilize at least 75 per cent of the funds released earlier (both Central and State share) and thereafter send a proposal for release of the second installment. The State is yet to submit the proposal for release of the second installment under the PM SHRI scheme in FY 2024-25 after fulfilling these mandatory requirements.
The selection of PM SHRI schools is done through the transparent challenge method. A maximum of two schools - one elementary and one secondary and senior secondary - can be selected with an upper limit of the number of total schools across India - 14,500. A total of 794 schools have been selected in the first and second phase of PM SHRI school selection from Telangana.
