Wardhannapet Hospital Superintendent Resigns After Rodent Issue

The superintendent of the Wardhannapet Government Area Hospital, Dr B. Veerin, has resigned from his post amid criticism following the reported incident of rats biting the body of a road accident victim kept in the mortuary.

Warangal: The Superintendent of the Wardhannapet Government Area Hospital, Dr B. Veerin, has resigned from his post amid criticism following the reported incident of rats biting the body of a road accident victim kept in the hospital mortuary.
However, Dr Veerin said his resignation had nothing to do with the incident and that he had stepped down as superintendent for personal reasons. He clarified that he had resigned only from the administrative post and would continue to serve as an orthopaedic doctor at the hospital. He said he had submitted his resignation to the Warangal District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Dr B. Raja Reddy.
Dr Bharat, who is currently working as a Civil Assistant Surgeon at the same hospital, has been appointed as the new superintendent in his place.
The incident involving the body of Gare Veeraiah, who died in a recent road accident, had triggered widespread concern after it was reported that rats had bitten the body while it was kept in the mortuary of the Wardhannapet government hospital. The issue was widely reported in the media. Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, the Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TGSHRC) directed the Warangal district collector to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report.
The Commission has asked the district administration to submit the inquiry report by October 27.
