Revanth Reddy Calls Tungabhadra Meet Historic

Telangana CM seeks permanent solution to inter-state irrigation disputes, highlights RDS water shortfall

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy described the Tungabhadra gathering as a historic step towards resolving long-pending inter-state water issues.

He said the restoration of 33 gates at the Tungabhadra Project was not just an infrastructure initiative but a move that could address problems affecting farmers for generations. He expressed confidence that Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil would work towards a permanent solution for water-sharing issues among the states.

Highlighting concerns over the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS), the Chief Minister said Telangana was receiving only 5–6 TMC of water against its allocation of 17.9 TMC, leaving nearly 10 TMC unutilised for farmers in Gadwal, Alampur and Palamuru regions.

He added that issues such as silt accumulation in the Tungabhadra and water allocation disputes were raised with the Union Minister, and a consensus was reached to work towards a lasting solution.

Revanth Reddy stressed that the discussions held on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, beyond political considerations, could pave the way for resolving inter-state water disputes. He expressed hope that the meeting would mark the beginning of a permanent solution to the long-standing problems faced by farmers.
