Revanth Watching Like Spectator While AP Steals Our Water: Harish
BRS leader T. Harish Rao urged the KRMB to stop Andhra Pradesh from drawing water from Nagarjunasagar, accusing the Telangana government of failing to protect the state’s Krishna water share.
Former irrigation minister and senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao has demanded that the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) immediately stop Andhra Pradesh from drawing water from Nagarjunasagar which the state began on Wednesday.
In a statement, Harish Rao said AP began drawing water through the Nagarjunasagar Right Canal and called the development a failure of the Congress government in Telangana.
“It is shameful that AP officials have once again resorted to high-handedness at the Nagarjunasagar project in Nalgonda district. The dam is under Telangana’s control. Today’s developments also are proof of how incapable Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is, who instead of protecting Krishna waters that Telangana is entitled to, is watching like a spectator while AP takes water away,” Harish Rao added.
Though Andhra Pradesh sought 47 tmc ft of water from Krishna at the recent KRMB three member committee meeting, no decision was taken by the KRMB on this request. “Why is the KRMB silent? How can AP divert water before any decision is taken on water allocation?” Harish Rao asked.
In addition to this illegal drawal of water from Nagarjunasagar, AP is also diverting 11 tmc ft of water from Srisailam reservoir through its Veligonda tunnel. Doing so when drought conditions have set in due to the impact of El Nino, is atrocious, he said.
