Revanth To Strengthen Government-Party Coordination
Congress plans regular coordination meetings, a voter enrolment drive and an MLC poll strategy.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said that he will strengthen coordination between the state government machinery and the ruling Congress' organisation to ensure that welfare schemes and development programmes reach every household in Telangana.
The Chief Minister attended the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Coordination Committee meeting convened by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) at the party's headquarters, Indira Bhavan, in Delhi on Wednesday.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, enrolment of every eligible voter, the upcoming Graduate MLC elections for two seats scheduled in March 2027, selection of candidates and an aggressive campaign to take the Congress government's welfare and development programmes to every doorstep.
According to party sources, Revanth Reddy said coordination between the government and the party organisation would be streamlined by convening TPCC Coordination Committee meetings once every 45 days. The meeting was attended by deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, C. Damodar Rajanarasimha and Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka), AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and Congress Working Committee special invitee Ch. Vamshi Chand Reddy.
The high command convened the coordination committee meeting in Delhi for the first time amid reports of gaps between the government and the party organisation. Though the AICC had constituted the TPCC Coordination Committee in March this year to bridge the gap between the government machinery and the party network, it had failed to meet even once. Taking serious note of the issue, the high command summoned all members of the committee to Delhi and held the first meeting.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Bhatti Vikramarka said the right to vote was the cornerstone of Indian democracy and the Constitution, and ensuring voting rights for every eligible citizen was a major objective of the Congress. He said the meeting had taken key decisions on three major issues — the SIR exercise, taking welfare and development programmes to the people through the party organisation, and preparations for the Graduate MLC elections.
Bhatti Vikramarka said the Congress had been paying special attention to the SIR process in Telangana and that the party's Booth Level Agents (BLAs) were working effectively. He said the AICC had also reviewed and appreciated their performance. Meenakshi Natarajan had directed the party leadership to speed up the remaining voter enrolment process and ensure that no eligible voter was left out.
As part of the coordination between the government and the party, district in-charge ministers have been entrusted with key responsibilities. They will hold consultations with District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents, MLAs and senior party leaders in their respective districts and submit a panel of three probable candidates to the party high command, Bhatti said.
TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud said the party had decided that important government decisions relating to schemes and programmes should be discussed in the coordination committee in advance.
Goud said Telangana Congress was ranked first in the country in implementing programmes in response to AICC calls and the high command was fully satisfied with the activities being undertaken by the state unit. He said the party cadre was being kept fully active and that clarity on coordination and other organisational issues would emerge by the end of August.
He said the Congress government had taken the Indiramma Indlu housing scheme as a prestigious programme and was ensuring complete transparency in the selection of beneficiaries through the lottery system, leaving no scope for irregularities. He said the provision of free electricity up to 200 units, supply of fine rice and the Indiramma Indlu housing scheme were among the major programmes strengthening the Congress party's popularity among the people.
