Revanth to Showcase ‘TG Model’ at AICC Session in Ahmedabad

Congress delegation to highlight Telangana reforms like loan waiver, caste census at AICC sessions

Hyderabad: A 44-member delegation from the Telangana unit of the Congress, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will participate in the All India Congress Committee (AICC) sessions scheduled in Ahmedabad on April 8 and 9. The delegation, which includes deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders, left for Ahmedabad on Monday evening. Revanth Reddy will leave on Tuesday morning.

During the AICC sessions, Revanth Reddy is expected to showcase the Congress government’s key achievements in Telangana within the first 15 months of its tenure. The Congress government, which came to power in December 2023, has delivered on its core promises, including the implementation of the six guarantees, crop loan waiver, caste census, enhanced reservations for Backward Classes (BCs), and sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs).

Official sources said that these reforms were part of the Congress’ national manifesto during the Lok Sabha elections in April 2024 and the Telangana Assembly elections in December 2023. The crop loan waiver, one of the flagship programmes, saw the state government release `18,000 crore to clear loans up to `2 lakh each for nearly 23 lakh farmers, marking it as the largest such initiative in the country.

In addition, the Congress government conducted a caste census within three months and passed two legislations to raise reservations for BCs to 42 per cent across education, employment, and local body representation. Another Bill was passed for sub-categorisation of SCs to ensure equitable distribution of reservation benefits.

Revanth Reddy aims to present these accomplishments as a model for the nation. The Congress high command is reportedly looking to replicate Telangana’s initiatives at the national level, promising similar reforms, including caste census and proportional reservation enhancements for BCs, SCs, and STs, if elected to power at the Centre and also in upcoming Assembly elections in various states.
