Revanth To Lead Charge on BRS Land Deals in Assembly Debate on Sec 22A

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will lead the attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi by exposing the land scams during the previous regime, when the contentious inclusion of land in the prohibitory list under Section 22A of the Registration Act, preventing their registration, would be taken up for a short discussion in the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Assembly.

The Chief Minister and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy held a detailed review on the issue on Sunday with senior officials and collectors of Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Hyderabad and Sangareddy districts. “We wanted a debate on the issue and pressed for a short discussion in the business advisory committee meeting. We will not shy away from the debate. We are seeing it as an opportunity to expose the BRS,” Srinivas Reddy told media persons in an informal chat in the Assembly lobbies.

According to the minister, the Congress government did not include an inch of land under Section 22A and had indeed removed nearly five lakh acres from the prohibitory list. Official records showed that there were 1.01 crore acres in the prohibitory list before the Congress took over, and the number came down to 96 lakh acres. “We are taking steps to remove some more land on which regularisation proceedings were issued,” Srinivas Reddy said.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister that the lists of properties earlier included under Section 22A were mechanically submitted to the High Court in December 2025, because of which owners of several genuine properties were affected. The officials should have examined each case and recommended inclusion or deletion, the minister said, explaining why he had offered an apology to the people on behalf of the revenue officials.

Sources said the Chief Minister had prepared a detailed note on land scams indulged by the top BRS leaders, with details of survey number, extent and the nature of irregularity. Though the revenue minister had earlier announced that BRS top leadership’s land dealings would be exposed, sources said there was delay in obtaining information linking people who got the land registered in their name with the BRS top brass.

With regard to the complaints by residents of layouts in meetings organised by BRS leader T. Harish Rao, the minister said those layouts would still be in prohibited list because they came up in land declared under Urban Land Ceiling Act and no final proceedings regularising them were issued till now. Similarly, prohibitory orders will continue for land which are in litigation in different courts, Srinivas Reddy said.
