Revanth To Lead BC Quota Dharna In Delhi

The padayatra is aimed at preparing party cadres for upcoming local bodies elections

Hyderabad, July 30: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with his Cabinet ministers, Congress MLAs, MLCs and MPs, will stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on August 6, demanding that the BJP-led government at the Centre approve two key Bills passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly that seek to provide 42 per cent reservation to Backward Classes (BCs) in education, employment and local bodies.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Revanth Reddy at his residence on Wednesday. AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud attended the meeting. The Chief Minister also held detailed discussions on the party’s ongoing and upcoming programmes, including the state-wide padayatra and the Delhi campaign.
The Telangana Assembly had passed the two BC reservation Bills in March this year, but the Centre is yet to clear them. Party sources said the CM finalised an action plan for the state government delegation's Delhi tour from August 5 to 7 to put pressure on the Centre for speedy clearance of the quota Bills. The plan includes seeking an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu on August 7 to submit a memorandum requesting her intervention.
As per the schedule, Congress MPs will raise the issue in both Houses of Parliament on August 5. On August 6, the Chief Minister, state ministers, MLAs, MLCs, BC community leaders and senior party functionaries will participate in the dharna at Jantar Mantar. On August 7, the delegation will call on the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The party has also decided to mobilise at least 50 Congress workers from each Assembly constituency in the state to travel to Delhi in a special train to show support for the demand. Following the Delhi tour, the Congress padayatra will resume across Telangana as planned from August 8.
The padayatra will be led by Meenakshi Natarajan, in which TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, ministers of respective districts, MLAs, MPs and MLCs of respective constituencies will participate. The padayatra will cover one Assembly constituency in each of the ten erstwhile districts of Telangana. In the first phase, from July 31 to August 4, six districts will be covered. The second phase will begin after the Delhi tour from August 8.
The padayatra is aimed at preparing party cadres for upcoming local bodies elections, besides reaching out to people and seeking their support by explaining the welfare schemes and development programmes being implemented by the Congress government.
