Revanth Seeks Modi’s Help on Tummidihatti Project

CM pushes for Metro expansion, Ring Road, Godavari barrage and Warangal airport

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to facilitate discussions with the Maharashtra government for the construction of the Tummidihatti barrage to effectively utilise Godavari river waters to meet Telangana’s future irrigation and drinking water requirements. The Chief Minister also requested Modi for the approval of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II expansion project.

Revanth Reddy met Modi after the Niti Aayog meeting concluded in Delhi and sought the Centre’s support for several key infrastructure projects critical to Telangana’s long-term development. The Chief Minister sought cooperation on major projects relating to irrigation, drinking water, transport connectivity, urban infrastructure, aviation and higher education.

Revanth Reddy explained that optimal use of Godavari waters was crucial for the state’s long-term growth and water security and sought the Centre’s intervention in resolving inter-state issues related to water utilisation.

He informed the Prime Minister that proposals worth Rs 38,595 crore had been submitted for the expansion of the Metro Rail network across seven corridors covering a total length of 122.9 km. He requested the Centre to approve the project as a joint venture between the Central and state governments.

Seeking expeditious clearance for the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR), Revanth Reddy said the state government had agreed to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost for the northern section of the project and had released Rs 626 crore to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

He pointed out that more than 90 per cent of land acquisition awards for the northern corridor had already been completed and urged the Centre to accord immediate approval for the project.

Revanth Reddy stressed that the southern section of the Regional Ring Road was equally important as it would strengthen Hyderabad’s transportation network and improve regional connectivity. He requested the Centre to approve and implement both the northern and southern corridors simultaneously.

The Chief Minister also sought approval for the proposed Hyderabad-Amaravati-Bandar Port Expressway. He said the 12-lane expressway connecting Hyderabad with Amaravati and Bandar Port would be strategically important for Telangana. The highway, proposed with a 120-metre right of way, would provide crucial port connectivity to the landlocked state. He noted that the expressway would emerge as a key transport corridor for exports from Telangana’s pharmaceutical, electronics and food processing industries.

Revanth Reddy urged the Prime Minister to initiate work on the Warangal airport project. He said the state government had already completed the required land acquisition and handed over the land to the Airports Authority of India. The airport, once operational, would provide a major boost to industrial development, education and tourism sectors in north Telangana, he said.

The Chief Minister also requested the establishment of an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad. He informed the Prime Minister that the state government was ready to allocate 200 acres of land for the institution.

Pointing out that Telangana already hosts premier national institutions such as IIT, IIIT, NALSAR, and TIFR, Revanth Reddy said the setting up of an IIM in Hyderabad would further strengthen the state’s higher education ecosystem and help achieve the objectives envisaged under the National Education Policy 2020.
