Revanth Rejects Doubts Over Caste Census

Slams BRS Over IHS Survey

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has dismissed allegations of discrepancies in the caste census conducted by the Congress government and called it a "flawless and scientific" exercise. He contrasted it with the Intensive Household Survey (IHS) conducted by the previous BRS government and said that the IHS lacked legal sanctity and was never made public, nor discussed or approved in the Cabinet or Legislative Assembly.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Revanth Reddy refuted the Opposition’s criticism that the population of various castes, including BCs, had declined in the caste census conducted by the Congress government compared to the 2014 BRS survey.

He also clarified that the BC population percentage had actually increased. He accused the BRS of spreading false propaganda by misquoting statistics to mislead the public.

He stated that the BC population percentage had risen from 51.09 per cent under the BRS regime to 56.33 per cent in the Congress survey. Similarly, the Scheduled Tribes (ST) population percentage increased from 9.8 to 10.45 per cent, while the Other Castes (OCs) population percentage decreased from 21.55 per cent to 15.79 per cent. He also dismissed the BRS’ survey figures as mathematically impossible and misleading, pointing out that their reported total state's population exceeded 114 per cent.

Revanth Reddy criticised BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, K.T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, and T. Padma Rao Goud, along with BJP MP D.K. Aruna, for not participating in the caste census. He alleged that they feared exposure of their illegal land dealings, as the census questionnaire required details of land ownership.

“The BRS government conducted the IHS not to benefit the BC, SC, ST communities and minorities, but for its selfish political interests. That is why the IHS report was never made public. It was not approved in the Cabinet nor tabled in the Assembly for discussion. Instead, they hid the report in their lockers, only using it during elections to extend sops to targeted sections based on its findings,” Revanth Reddy alleged.

He also accused the BRS of conducting the household survey in a single day across the state merely to enter the Limca Book of Records, rather than to aid weaker sections. He highlighted that the Congress government carried out the caste census in a meticulous and scientific manner over 50 days, employing over one lakh government staff.

Revanth Reddy also questioned why Chandrashekar Rao’s family did not participate in the survey, suggesting that they wanted to avoid disclosing details about their land holdings. “If the so-called comprehensive survey by the BRS was an official document, why was the report not placed in the Cabinet or the Assembly during their ten-year rule? Why was it kept under the custody of a single family,” he asked.
