Revanth promises BC-A status for Mudiraj community
Cabinet sub-committee to study reclassification from BC-D to BC-A for education and job opportunities.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced that the Mudiraj community, currently classified under the BC-D category, will be considered for inclusion in the BC-A group to provide its members greater opportunities in education and employment.
He said the issue would be discussed at the next Cabinet meeting, followed by the constitution of a Cabinet sub-committee to study the matter and take the process forward, on the lines of the SC sub-categorisation completed by the Congress government.
Participating in the birth anniversary celebrations of Panduga Sayanna Mudiraj at Ravindra Bharathi here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said the next general elections would be crucial for the country and called upon people to extend their full support to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He expressed confidence that the empowerment of the majority Bahujan communities would be possible only when Rahul Gandhi became Prime Minister.
Revanth Reddy said the Congress government was according top priority to the political empowerment of Backward Classes and ensuring representation for all BC communities. He said the Mudiraj community could not be reclassified from BC-D to BC-A earlier due to the lack of accurate data. The proposed Cabinet sub-committee would undertake a comprehensive study, taking into account the concerns and doubts raised by other communities over the proposed inclusion.
The Chief Minister urged all communities to provide complete details and bring any errors in their population figures to the government's notice for correction in the caste census conducted by the Telangana government in 2024-25. He said the caste census had enabled communities to assert their demands with stronger evidence. After nearly a century, the state had successfully undertaken a comprehensive caste census, he added, recalling that the first such exercise had been conducted during British rule.
Revanth Reddy said the Mudiraj community had a significant presence in his Kodangal Assembly constituency and was known for its trustworthiness. Recalling his association with the community, he said that after becoming TPCC president, he had appointed Srihari Mudiraj as a District Congress Committee president, given him a party ticket and subsequently inducted him into the Cabinet as a minister. The Congress had also fielded Neelam Madhu in the Lok Sabha elections.
The Chief Minister said it was his responsibility to ensure that the Mudiraj community became a partner in governance. He asked BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar to take up the issue with TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud and explore the possibility of providing an MLC ticket to a Mudiraj community leader.
The Chief Minister paid tributes to Telangana fighters Panduga Sayanna, Chakali Ailamma and Doddi Komaraiah, and recalled the contributions of revolutionary singer Gaddar and poet Ande Sri to society. He announced that statues of Panduga Sayanna and Doddi Komaraiah would be installed on Tank Bund in Hyderabad.
