Revanth Praises Nizam’s Land Administration
Revanth Reddy said lakes, irrigation projects and educational institutions such as Osmania University were among the initiatives undertaken during the Nizam period.
Hyderabad: A day before Hyderabad celebrates its merger with India, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday praised the Nizam as one of the “best rulers” and an exceptional administrator, who governed the erstwhile Hyderabad State efficiently.
During a debate in the Assembly on Section 22-A relating to prohibited lands, Revanth Reddy said the Nizam’s administration spanning more than two centuries was remarkable, barring about a decade of the Razakar movement.
He said the Nizam administration systematically utilised public revenue, 60 per cent of which came from land taxes, to create infrastructure in Hyderabad and Telangana. “Sixty per cent of the land revenue tax, which was called Diwani, was utilised for public welfare, while non-Diwani (40 per cent) was for the royalty. Over 200 years can be termed as the best administration, except for 10 to 12 years of Razakar movement,” he pointed out.
Revanth Reddy said lakes, irrigation projects and educational institutions such as Osmania University were among the initiatives undertaken during the Nizam period. He also cited the old Assembly building, which presently houses the Legislative Council, among the infrastructure created as part of the welfare measures of the time.
