Revanth: Lift Godavari Water From Yellampalli, Devadula, Sitarama Projects
The Chief Minister asked officials to focus on resolving minor issues related to lift irrigation operations at the Devadula and Sitarama projects
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed irrigation officials to ensure optimum utilisation of Godavari river water by carrying out lift operations from the Yellampalli, Devadula and Sitarama projects.
At a review of the irrigation department at MCRHRDI, the Chief Minister said water was not being stored in the Sundilla, Annaram and Medigadda barrages of the Kaleshwaram project in accordance with the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) recommendations. He directed officials to strictly follow the NDSA recommendations.
Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy informed the Chief Minister that defects had been identified in the Medigadda and Sundilla barrages. Revanth Reddy directed officials to consult the NDSA immediately on the issue.
Uttam Kumar Reddy also informed the meeting that water-lifting operations were being carried out using nine pumps at the Devadula project, which is an unprecedented move. The Chief Minister asked officials to focus on resolving minor issues related to lift irrigation operations at the Devadula and Sitarama projects.
The meeting also reviewed pending compensation to farmers whose land had been acquired for various projects. Revanth Reddy directed officials to prepare an action plan for immediate disbursement of compensation.
He also instructed irrigation and revenue officials to conduct field visits and prepare a factual report on villages prone to submergence and pending compensation and rehabilitation issues.
The Chief Minister said compensation should be paid immediately in villages facing an immediate impact. Completion of the process would pave the way for filling the Baswapur and Gouravelli projects with water.
Revanth Reddy also directed officials to conduct a comprehensive study on increasing the capacity of the Gattu and Gudemdoddi lift irrigation schemes and appoint a consultant for the Gudemdoddi pumped-storage project.
CMO Principal Secretary V. Seshadri, CMO secretary Manicka Raj, irrigation secretary E. Sridhar and R&R commissioner Shiva Kumar Naidu attended the meeting.
