Rahul Praises Revanth For Caste Census, Highlights Telangana Social Welfare Model

Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ gains momentum in Bihar with Revanth Reddy, Tejashwi Yadav, Vadra and INDIA bloc leaders joining the campaign against EC’s voter roll revision

Hyderabad: A sea of Congress flags greeted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy as he joined AICC leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ at Supaul in Bihar on Tuesday. Revanth Reddy took part in the roadshow along with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Revanth Reddy shared the open-top SUV with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for over an hour during the roadshow. The prominence accorded to him has triggered a buzz in political circles, with many describing Revanth Reddy as one of the most powerful emerging leaders in the party. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also flew with him in a chartered flight from Delhi to Bihar.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Vakati Srihari, Seethakka, TPCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud, MP M. Anil Kumar Yadav and Khairatabad DCC president C. Rohin Reddy were among the Telangana leaders who accompanied them. The yatra began at Hussain Chowk in Supaul and moved through a four-km stretch, cheered on by thousands of workers and I.N.D.I.A. bloc supporters.
Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Revanth Reddy waved and saluted the enthusiastic crowds that lined the route, raising slogans against BJP’s alleged “vote chori” and in support of the INDIA bloc.

Wherever he addressed gatherings, Rahul Gandhi praised Revanth Reddy for fulfilling his promise of conducting a caste census within a year of assuming office and for passing two Bills providing 42 per cent reservations to Backward Classes in education, jobs and local bodies. Rahul Gandhi described this “Telangana model” as a benchmark for social justice.

Although the yatra was launched to highlight alleged irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Rahul Gandhi has widened its scope to include issues of farmers, labourers, migrant workers and other marginalised groups.
Women and children thronged balconies and terraces to catch a glimpse of Priyanka Gandhi, while Revanth Reddy drew her attention to those chanting her name. She waved and blew kisses in response. People travelled long distances to witness the procession.
The massive turnout choked Supaul’s main thoroughfare, with people also arriving from neighbouring Saharsa and Madhepura districts.
The yatra later entered Madhubani district, with leaders taking a break at a roadside dhaba in Phulparas before proceeding towards Darbhanga. The 16-day, 1,300-km march will conclude on September 1, and is fast emerging as a show of nationwide Opposition unity. Several prominent leaders including M.K. Stalin, Hemant Soren, Siddaramaiah, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Akhilesh Yadav are expected to join in the coming days.

Revanth Reddy returned to the city on Tuesday evening.
