Revanth Eyes for Win in All Municipal Polls

CM cites gram panchayat success, vows grassroots push in municipal elections

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday said the Congress should win all municipalities and municipal corporations that will go to the polls shortly. He said the party’s recent electoral performance reflected a steady upward trajectory and provided a strong foundation for success in the forthcoming urban local body elections.

Addressing the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) executive committee meeting at Gandhi Bhavan, Revanth Reddy pointed to the outcome of the recent gram panchayat elections where, he said, the Congress secured 66 per cent of the seats and was a clear endorsement of the party’s policies and leadership. He expressed confidence that this momentum would translate into a resounding mandate in municipal and corporation polls as well.

Revanth Reddy said he was ready to take part in door-to-door campaigns, underscoring that his position as Chief Minister was a result of the faith placed in him by the party and its workers. He said he was a Congress activist first and Chief Minister later, and that the party would always take precedence over any position.

Responding to criticism from some quarters over a Chief Minister campaigning for local body elections, he said such views ignored the ethos of the Congress which valued grassroots engagement and collective effort.

The Chief Minister recalled that Congress returned to power due to the fighting spirit and sacrifices of its cadre during the decade-long “autocratic rule” of the BRS. As TPCC president, he said, he had promised party workers that unity would bring Congress to power, and after forming the government the focus would be on ensuring the victory of grassroots workers as sarpanches, ward members, ZPTCs and MPTCs.

Calling for discipline, coordination and sustained outreach, the Chief Minister urged leaders at all levels to work to replicate this success in the municipal elections and strengthen Congress’ presence across urban Telangana.

Revanth Reddy said Congress performance had improved with every contest since the 2023 Assembly elections. He noted that the party reduced the BRS to zero seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, defeated it in the Secunderabad Cantonment and Jubilee Hills Assembly by-elections, and went on to secure a decisive share of gram panchayat seats.
