Revanth: Dedicated Welfare Fund For Gig And Platform Workers In Telangana

The issues of gig workers were also raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Summit 2025

Hyderabad, July 21: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asked officials to establish a dedicated welfare fund for gig and platform workers, along with measures to provide accidental and health insurance coverage. He stressed the need to create an online database containing comprehensive details of all gig and platform workers operating in the state.

Revanth Reddy was responding to a presentation made by officials at the Secretariat on Monday regarding the proposed Telangana Gig and Platform Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Bill 2025. Officials suggested the creation of an exclusive board with government representation to oversee gig workers’ welfare.
Revanth Reddy assured that the government would introduce a pioneering policy for gig workers that could serve as a national model. “The government will ensure that the new policy safeguards the interests of gig workers and provides them social and economic protection,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of institutional support, Revanth Reddy pointed out that the previous Ashok Gehlot Congress government in Rajasthan had enacted a similar law and that Telangana would follow by forming a statutory board and launching a registration system for these workers.
The labour department received 66 suggestions from gig workers and companies on the draft Bill. Labour minister G. Vivek said these inputs would be carefully evaluated before finalising the implementation framework. He noted that the issues of gig workers were also raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Summit 2025, who stressed the need to deliver justice to them.
“We are committed to ensuring minimum wages and statutory benefits to gig workers. The policy will benefit nearly four lakh gig and platform workers in Telangana,” Vivek said, adding that the matter would also be discussed in the Cabinet before bringing it to the Assembly.
