Congress Vote Share On Rise: Revanth

Chief Minister said recent electoral trends clearly indicated growing public support for Congress

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said that the Congress vote share in Telangana has been on a steady upward trajectory since the 2023 Assembly elections and expressed confidence that the party would sweep the upcoming municipal elections in February.
Eight BRS corporators from the Khammam Municipal Corporation joined the Congress in the presence of Revanth Reddy and minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao at his residence. The Chief Minister said recent electoral trends clearly indicated growing public support for Congress.
Revanth Reddy pointed out that the Congress had secured 39.5 per cent vote share in the 2023 Assembly polls, which rose to 40.1 per cent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The momentum continued with a significant surge to 50.8 per cent in the Jubilee Hills bypoll held in November 2025 and further climbed to 66 per cent in the gram panchayat elections conducted in December 2025. These results, he said, reflected the electorate’s growing trust in the Congress government and its policies.
The Chief Minister said Congress-backed candidates emerged victorious in about two-thirds of the gram panchayats across the state. He said that despite an unofficial understanding between the BRS and the BJP, the two parties together could secure only around one-third of the gram panchayat seats. He maintained that this outcome demonstrated the weakening influence of the opposition and the consolidation of Congress at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the political significance of the rural verdict, Revanth Reddy said the gram panchayat elections were held in areas represented by 94 Assembly constituencies. Congress-backed candidates gained the upper hand in 87 of these constituencies, while the BRS led in six and the BJP in just one. He noted that the forthcoming municipal elections would cover 25 Assembly constituencies in urban areas, where the Congress was well placed to register a clean sweep.
Recalling the party’s earlier performance, the Chief Minister said the Congress had won 65 of the 119 seats in the 2023 Assembly elections, but its standing had improved substantially since then. In the recently held elections to 12,702 gram panchayats, Congress-backed candidates won 7,522 seats, while rebel candidates secured another 820. Together, they accounted for nearly 66 per cent of the total. In comparison, the BRS won 3,511 gram panchayats and the BJP 710, while Left parties and others together accounted for a marginal share.
Revanth Reddy said the Congress should now aim to secure as much as 90 per cent of the seats in the upcoming municipal elections, riding on the strong public mandate in its favour.
