Revanth calls for social boycott of KCR family for opposing Caste Census

He clarified that the caste census conducted by the Congress government was a disciplined effort and not for political gain

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and BRS top leaders K. Chandrashekar Rao, K.T.Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao over the Caste Census.

Addressing a state Congress meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, Revanth Reddy proposed a resolution calling for a "social boycott" of Chandrashekar Rao, Rama Rao, and Harish Rao for their refusal to participate in the caste enumeration process.

The Chief Minister accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not being a person from a Backward Class community at birth, and that he became a “legally converted BC” later.

“Modi, who comes from an OC (Other Castes) background, included his caste in the BC list in 2002 only after becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat… Why is Modi not conducting the OBC census, if he is a BC? Modi is a BC only in his caste certificate but he has an OC mindset," said Revanth Reddy, adding that the Prime Minister’s claims about caste were hypocritical.

Revanth Reddy alleged that the BRS leadership was obstructing the census to prevent the clear understanding of the caste-wise population in Telangana. He alleged that the BRS was fearful that BC community would demand a larger share of resources and political representation if higher population numbers were revealed.

He further claimed that "KCR has no right to live in Telangana" for his refusal to participate in the caste census.

"I am calling for a social boycott of KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao. I urge the people to go to their houses, beat drums, and wake them up to submit their caste details in the second phase of the census starting from February 16.”

He criticised the Chandrashekar Rao government's household survey, which was conducted on a single day in 2014, and called it a "fake" exercise aimed at misleading the public.

"Surveys in the past have been as inaccurate as counting trees," Revanth Reddy remarked.

“If I wanted to show fake figures in the caste census, I would have inflated the OC (Other Castes) population, but we didn’t. We are showing the reality, including BCs and SCs, without fear or favour.”

He also clarified that the caste census conducted by the Congress government was a disciplined effort and not for political gain. “I’m not worried if I am the last CM from the Reddy community in Telangana. Rahul Gandhi promised a caste census, and I fulfilled it as a disciplined party soldier,” Revanth Reddy emphasised.

He revealed that the Congress government was giving another opportunity for households who had not enrolled in the caste census to register their details from February 16 to 28. "We want to ensure everyone is counted accurately," he said, urging people to participate in the second phase of the caste enumeration.

Revanth Reddy also took a dig at BJP leaders and Union ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, accusing them of "running in circles" and failing to deliver on promises for Telangana. He warned that the Congress will soon wage a war against the BJP-led government at the Centre for discriminating against Telangana in sanctioning of funds and projects.

On the matter of SC sub-categorisation, Revanth Reddy reaffirmed the Congress’s commitment to the issue, calling it one of the party’s key successes in resolving long-standing issues. He also hit back at critics who accused the government of manipulating the caste enumeration. "Some are trying to create misconceptions, but the truth is like fire — it burns them but does not harm the people," Revanth Reddy said, defending the transparency of the Congress government’s efforts.

As promised by Rahul Gandhi, we will make legislations on increasing BC reservations and SC sub-classification very soon, he said. “No matter the misconceptions, the truth will prevail,” Revanth Reddy said.
